The answer as always depends on what we're trying to accomplish but sometimes what we think is important is actually not. I remember doing heavy kettlebell swings during a group class a few years back. The instructor was very concerned about my form, and asked me if I realized that I was "failing to keep my chest up" during my swings. I probably looked like the photo on the right. Chest Up is a super common cue but for some people it might actually be detrimental to loading the hip for a movement like the swing. In the photo on the left the chest is higher than in the photo on the right. Yet the spine is much better aligned than in the right hand photo. Spinal mechanics and hip mechanics are the cornerstone of kettlebell technique and part of the Agatsu Level 1 Kettlebell certification. We cover common faults and fixes for preventing pain and injuries.
